When I created this blog in 2010, I was so excited to start blogging that I hardly even thought twice about picking a name. I chose Caroline in the City because it was easy, and it was the only name I could think of that didn't sound cheesy. Back then, blogging was just a hobby, and I only posted on it when I was in the mood. I didn't take it seriously, and didn't expect to gain a lot of readers from it.
As I started to take my blogging a little more seriously, I realized how important it is to have a distinct and original blog name. And let's be honest--Caroline in the City isn't exactly original. Not only did the name used to be a TV show, but there are also a lot of other Caroline in the City blogs, not to mention that there's another one based in Atlanta as well! I was living in Seattle when I started my blog--had I known that I'd eventually end up in Atlanta, maybe I might have picked another name. My main reason for wanting to change the name of my blog is to differentiate myself from all the other blogs out there, especially the other Caroline in the City blogs.
Now, I would change the name in a heartbeat if there weren't any complications to it. But we all know that's not the case. While there are many pros to changing your blog name, there are also quite a few cons--confusing (and even losing some of) your readers, taking the time to set up redirecting links, create a new website/banner/logo design, change all of your social media accounts, etc. In my opinion, the hardest part of the whole process would be reestablishing your online presence and gaining back the readers you potentially lost when you changed the name of your website. It's almost like starting over with a clean slate. ALMOST.
I've already come up with a few names, but I wanted to hear what you all think before I make any moves.
Should I stick to Caroline in the City, or should I go ahead and change the name?
