Stepping Out of the Comfort Zone + Finding the Perfect Ethereal Dress

Ethereal fashion is not something I'd consider to be part of my personal style nor in my comfort zone. Whenever I get dressed up for a special event, I tend to go with something bold, something that says "Hey, look at me," and often times something that skims the body and has a bit of structure. Think Jessica Rabbit glam with a touch more conservatism and a little more class. (Hey, that's what your twenties are for, right?) It never really dawned on me to wear something flowy, whimsical, angelic, even innocent. Besides, flowy fabrics have never been flattering on me.

However, when I found out that the theme for the upcoming Maiedae Mixer event was ethereal, I knew I had a challenge on my hands. How can I look angelic and wear soft, flowy fabrics without sacrificing my personal style? Can I find something (flattering) that won't make me look like a bride-to-be, or like I'm about to go to the prom?

After searching high and low for several hours, (I think I might be taking this a little more serious than I need to be), I think I may have found a few dresses that seem "ethereal". I stayed away from looking for long, maxi-type dresses because the event is only semi-formal--cocktail dress lengths should suffice.

Out of all these dresses, I'm really loving the Sachin + Babi (4) and Diane von Furstenberg (7) dresses--they both have light, chiffon material on the outside, but also have a bit of sequins/beading to them for that hint of glam. I'm just afraid that they don't look ethereal enough.

What do you think of these dresses? How do you interpret "ethereal" fashion?
